Spot the Moorfoot... |
So the running gear was packed in the suitcase, and the first week of the holiday had some early morning runs squeezed in, trying to acclimatise to the mid 80s F temperatures.
Race day was hot - but the trail was bone dry and dusty (and rocky and rooty !) - an unusual course starting at the top of the Niagara escarpment, running through the shade of the trees along the edge of the canyon, before a descent down to the canyon floor, a long climb up the other side, before re descending and then climbing back up the other side again to the finish - just under 13km for the 'Enduro' course.
The heat took it toll latterly but I still managed a respectable 55mins (54:58) for 20th from 319 finishers and 5th in the MV 40-49 category. Full results here...
Eilidh raced in the shorter 'Sports' course (4.7Km), finishing in 27 mins and actually taking first place in the W10-14 category - 'go girl !!!"
