National XC Champs - Marshall needed from each club

The National XC Champs are on Saturday 23 February at Callendar Park, Falkirk. Following a shortage of marshalls last year, all clubs entering this year are required to provide one marshall to assist on the course. We will have 14 juniors running but to avoid a mum or dad being our club's marshall and then not being free to help or cheer on their own kin down the finishing straight, is anyone else available and willing to be the Moorfoot marshall on the day?

First race (U13 Boys) is at 11.30 am and the senior men conclude the programme at 2.30pm so help is needed 11.00am to c.3.30pm. (I am waiting to hear if we might be allowed to stand down early as will have no entries in the last two races.)

Please let Gregor know by phone if you can help (01721 723370). Or if two (or more) of you can do it all the better. If you have not been before it is a fantastic event with the cream of Scotland's XC runners on show.

PS Other than Sarah, we have not had any senior entrants in recent years, but if anyone does want to be entered you have to do so through the club and will need to let Gregor know no later than Thursday lunchtime this week which is when he will be posting the completed entry forms. £5 entry fee. Further details on the Scottish Athletics website calendar.

Moorfoot Runners - Senior Club Run Sun 27-Jan

27/1 - six runners turned out  - a bit of a 'slush fest' around Glentress's trails but good to get out; well earned coffee and cake back at the Peel afterwards....we'll organise something similar in Feb...

25/1 - still on - weather looks a bit iffy but stick on a jacket/hat/gloves and we can shorten as necessary...see you there at 0900

Withe Berwick BXC on Sunday 27-Jan cancelled, we have a wee opportunity to shoe-horn in a good old fashioned club run, if you are interested...

Meet at Glentress Peel (bridge between Alpine Bikes shop and Cafe) at 9:00am and we can choose a suitable route depending on who shows up.

Probably running for 75-90 mins (with breaks) and we will try to stay together as a group for the first 45 mins before perhaps splitting and then meeting up back the the Peel cafe for a coffee afterwards.

Any questions, drop a note in the comments.....

Moorfoots at 'Feel the Burns' Hill Race 2013

Coxy on Foulshiels Hill...is he walking ?
A new race...and one which will no doubt become very popular, after a fantastic inaugral running. Great route, great turnout, superb after race catering and hospitality...and winter wonderland conditions.

The route was basically 22Km loop from Philliphaugh (near Selkirk Rugby Club) up to the Three Brethren Cairns, along the ridge following the SUW and then descending down the 'Minchmoor Road' to the Broadmeadows Youth Hostel, before a final short, sharp reascent followed by a further long, fast downhill to the finish at Philliuphaugh again.

A good tun out of Moorfoots and some very strong performances....

Andy Cox's 13th place (1:54) made him Moorfoot 'top dog' for the day, with Mike McG's 1:56 (19th) showing that he is getting back into form after some protracted injuries.
Colin Williams 1:57 (22nd) was good milage in his legs for his forthcoming London Marathon and it was good to see Wull Hynd (1:58 (26th)) back in action, again after a long absense through injury.
Russell Anderson's 2:00 (34th) was his usual steady performance - it always looks 'effortless' - and 'tail end Charlie' for the day was Kenny (2:06 55th) - 'effort written all over his face most of the way round !!"

Good runs too from local runners Craig Rendle (1:59 27th), Chris Blackwood (2:12) and Scott 'Triathlete' Noble 2:42

A big 'well done' to race organiser Sheila Cochrane and her team for a top notch event...and £1000 raised for the Mountain Rescue.

Paxton BXC 2013

Provisional results at this link

Lots of mud apparently and another bumper turn out of 182 runners - Russell Anderson was the sole senior Moorfoot, finishing in 42nd (25:15)...get those shoes washed for next weeks 'Feel the Burns' race Russell !!!!

CANCELLED - Berwick BXC 2013

Cancellation  of this years BXC leg at Berwick....see below:

Round five of the Border X.C. series to held at Berwick on the Sunday
27th January has been cancelled on health and safety grounds.
After a new risk assessment on the start and finish venue and
facilities that we use this will now not accommodate the enormous
increase in competitors/supporters and cars.

The amount of competitors that can safely compete over our senior and
junior course is a maximum 150 for each race which is stated on our
race permit.

The River estuary is in a very dangerous state after all the debris has
been washed down and is now blocking the start and finish area around
Spittal point and on to the beach as well.

Also the state of the cliff  top tracks are very wet and slippery
because of the weather and with it being an out and back course and
narrow passing places with sheer drops onto the beach and it is
dangerous hazard.

Priority has to be safety first in any event we organise as a club
before there is a serious incident that we would always regret.
