W'end Roundup - 16 & 17 Nov 2019 - Glentress Trail Races, Borders XC Gala, Wooler Trail Marathon

A busy weekend for the Moorfoots.

Glentress trail races took place on Saturday, which are getting more popular year on year.
First up was the Trail Half Marathon (actually 12.1 miles / 19.5 km; 2,200 feet / 675m ascent) with 6 Moorfoots taking the start line with a field of over 450 runners, with lots of competitive results and good showings all round
Colin Williams was 13th overall and 3rd M40 in 1:40:48; Brian Smith was 8th M40 (1:52:00); Kenny Davidson 8th M50 (1:53:02); Hayley Davidson 7th woman (1:58:37); Craig Henrys in a very solid showing 2:14:04. Simon Hammond was also running but unfortunately pulled out mid-race feeling terrible.

Mike McGovern and Vickie Morrison were racing that evening in the 10k Night Trail Race (5.8 miles / 9.4km; 915 feet / 280m ascent) with terrific results. Mike won the Night 10k outright (as well as being the fastest M50 too) in a brilliant run clocking 44:29. Almost as impressive was the fact that despite the thick fog Mike didn’t get lost! Vickie also had a very strong run to finish 10th woman in 59:10 and 48th in the top quarter of the big field of 209 finishers

Wooler Trail Marathon (25.2 miles 4,200 feet ascent) - Andrew Dancer was racing in the Cheviots - due to snow levels on the highest ground the course was changed to two laps of the half course. Andrew finished a brilliant 5th and 1stM40 (in his first race since joining the Vet club!) big congratulations. Full results

Andrew commented:
2 lap course as cheviot was a no go for safety concerns. Took it easy first lap and then felt fresh at end. Nice training for Goat challenge

The Goat is 55 miles ultra race in the Cheviot Hills of Northumberland in early December - good luck Andrew!
