Moorfoot Awards 2021 - senior section

A belated post – apologies for the lateness. There club Christmas feed and awards night was held on Tuesday 7th December in the Crown Hotel in Peebles and was well attended by 24 members. It was great to get together after so long, and before the new Omicron variant and restrictions came along. Also it was really good to see so many new members too.

One of the parts evening included awards – some light hearted, but mainly giving deserved recognition to the considerable achievements over the past two years – there were no dinner and awards in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, and due to the number of cancellations.

Award shortlist

Thrills and spills claret award – Alan Elder. Rarely does a race go by without Alan taking a chunk out of a leg! Honourable mention to Andrew Dancer and Craig Henrys for their efforts at the Glentress races in 2020 http://moorfootrunners.blogspot.com/2020/02/normal-0-false-false-false-en-gb-x-none.html

Tour guide – Kenny Davidson. Recognising the effort Kenny has put in leading and organising Thursday and weekend trail runs. Thanks to Gillian and Dean Carr.

It'll be alright award - Pete Hall. To have the conviction (?) that after being out with serious injury Keswick Mountain festival and Glencoe trail 20km races on consecutive weekends!

Skins award - Andy Cox. For wearing only a vest on some atrocious day racing Batman in Northumberland on Halloween https://www.facebook.com/groups/moorfootrunners/permalink/3006790169582932

So good they really don’t need another award Award – Scout and Jacob Adkins. ‘Our’ Lake District based sibling continue to excel at the highest level ! where do we start, the icing has to setting course records that had stop for over 15 years (Jacob); winning the Home International (Scout) and both winning senior selection to the GB team!

The Helicopter Award – Tim Warner. Hopefully the first and last time that a member of the club needs to be airlifted off Cademuir (or any hill!) after a bad tumble on a club run. Many thanks to all those who assisted that day and took very sensible actions.

Ross Grieve - No challenge big enough. For taking on his Backyard Ultra http://moorfootrunners.blogspot.com/2021/04/ross-grieves-backyard-ultra-summary.html taking on the Dragons Back, Lakes in a Day, Tweed Valley ultra 65km in the same year

Mike McGovern tribute award for (lack of) Navigation Prowess award – Danny Lavin, Moffat stag and hind, Abbotsford trail race – going wrong with less than 200m to go, but managed to correct!

Achieving your goals – Vickie Morrison and Brian Smith. Both Vickie and Brian set themselves goals for running marathons. Vickie aiming for sub 4hr at London and Brian sub 3hr30 at Inverness at the other end of Britain on the same day. They both achieved their goals which is great after all the effort and hard work. http://moorfootrunners.blogspot.com/2021/10/marathon-fever-loch-ness-london-and.html

Handicap speed king - Marty Davidson. For being the fastest over the 2019-21 handicap series.

Newby - Milan Misak. For winning Blair Castle Trail Weekender 30km, Glentress trail night run 10km, and the Haylodge parkrun with a buggy!

Hill Runner - Gillian Carr. Winning the bronze F40 at East District Hill Running

Cross Country award – Carol Moss. For winning gold at the National Masters XC Champs - W55

Ultra Class Award - Anna Rutherford. Winning the Tweed Valley ultra 65km finishing 5th overall. A hard fought 3rd at the Lakes in a Day after some major navigational deviations! (the SUW record heroics were before Anna but that was amazing)

The club cup for Outstanding Performance – Iain Veitch. Winning the Tunnel Run 20km overall, winning and setting course records on 3 mountain triathlons and smashing the run sections in the Cairngorms, Snowdon and Scafell Pike. Setting the record time, and going sub 2hrs on the Peebles 3 Peaks challenge http://moorfootrunners.blogspot.com/2021/05/peebles-3-peaks-challenge.html , winning the Lee Pen tribute race and collecting a ridiculous Strava Crown collection on Cademuir!

Congratulations everyone! And here is to a good 2022
