A big well done to Jacob Adkin who was running for Scotland in
the World Mountain Running Association International Youth Cup in Gap, France on 7 July and finished a highly commendable 8th in what is effectively the U-18
European Championships. This matched big sis Scout’s finishing position in the
same event in 2009.
Up against athletes from the traditionally strong mountain
running countries such as Turkey, Italy, England, France, Poland, Bulgaria and
Russia, as well as the 30C morning heat, Jacob completed the 5.3km/335m course over 2 minutes ahead of his two Scotland team-mates in 26th
and 27th and only just failed to catch the second of the England
runners on the run to the line. The 3-strong Scotland team finished 6th
overall, one point shy of Russia.
