Moorfoots at 'The Mighty Deerstalker'

The weather stayed fair and a record (?) 1800+ runners completed the two races (5K and 10K).

Moorfoots running included (forgive me if I have missed anyone - it's a big finishing list !)

Julia Conner (10K) 1:45:20
Alison Caw (10K) 2:13:44
Mike McGovern (10K) Disqualified (ran off course ?!?)
Jane Hobbs (5K) 1:16:47

Well done too, to Darin Dougal, running under 'The Leithenburnfoot Runner' who won the 10K race, it what looks like an exciting sprint finish....

Anyone who took part that would like to add 'their story' to the blogger, drop me an email...

Provisional results here (5K) and here (10K)

Regards...

Kenny

Proposed Moorfoot Club Championship Race Series?

I mentioned an idea at the club AGM this year that we should pick a number of races that based on the results could be used to have a Club Championship with an award given for the:

  • Fastest man
  • Fastest woman
  • Fastest overall taking into account age and sex

A score would be awarded for each race based on each persons time compared to the race winners (as a percentage of the winners time).
By looking at the 10k National male and female records for different age group I will work out an overall leader.

I'm looking for ideas for races but I thought the series could consist of 6 races and you would need to do at least 4 to get a placing?

The races I was thinking of are:
Gala 10k, 11th April
Peebles 3 Bridges (3 Miles) early May
Lee Pen (4km, 300m ascent)17 July
Manor Hill Race (15km, 670m ascent) 9 October
Jedburgh Half Marathon 24 October

Any thoughts on the races? let me know - we need to add at least one more

My knee should be healed by the 3 Bridges, so I should back runnig for then (but not very fast I expect!) Cheers, Colin

Moorfoots at Glentress Duathlon (Short Course)

Pic - Kenny gets his 'shopping bike' up to speed on the final sprint...

At last, some decent weather at Glentress for this years duathlon series. November was wet and cold, January was postponed, February was snowed off....March brought some almost Spring-like weather for the rescheduled short course race, although the course was modified to stay off the snow and ice still lying on the higher ground.

Some more great results from the ladies, with Julia getting a third place in Sunday's Ladies race (1:03:29 29th overall, outsprinted for 2nd place) and third overall in the series.

Alison (1:08:41 47th overall) secured the Ladies V40 series prize with another solid result built around a strong cycle leg.

Kenny put in a guest appearance at the short course race, achieving a creditable 15th place overall (1:00:03) - a good run, hanging on a bit in the cycle !! - in a slightly weakened men's field following the rescheduled date.

Great organisation, course layout, atmosphere, facilities and prizes from the PCC organisers again - well done to Pete Baxter and the team !

Moorfoots at Meadows Half Marathon

Moorfoot Walter "Wattie" Barrie reports:

Just to let you know I took part in the Meadows Half Marathon on Sunday 7th March. Over 800 runners took part, although when I checked my official time on the web site only about 400 runners had a finishing time. The course was 8 laps of the Meadows with a short climb up to Lauriston Place and back down again each time. I finished in 104th place in a time of 1:40:41 -- 2 minutes quicker than my PB in the Glasgow Half last October. Hope to make it to the training before the lambing starts.

Bye for now --- Wattie.

Well done on the PB !!

Moorfoots at Lasswade 10 mile RR

Pic - Julia, in the bunch at mile 2
In very Spring-like conditions, a huge contingent of Moorfoots (both runners and supporters - the Hobbs girls) travelled to the village of Roslin for the 2010 Lasswade AC 10 mile road race.
Spoils for the day included the men's team prize, second place in the women's team prize and a handful of 'course bests' over the hilly route. (I can only recall one short section of the route which could be considered flat...all that hill rep training is finally paying off...)
Mike Reid (56:46 10th), James (57:23 11th) and Wull's (59:28 16th) sub 60' times secured the first team prize of the year for the Moorfoots, with Tom (60:29 23rd) amd Darin (60:46 24th) not far behind...
Johnny's 'sub 65' target for the day sounded ambitious but he achieved this with ease (64:33 39th). Kenny's 65:46 47th was almost 3 mins faster than last year (beat that !! 1 year older, 3 mins faster !!), enough to hold off the fast improving Julia (67:24 62nd, 5th lady !) who lead the charge for the Ladies team.

Rachael's top 100 position (71:46 95th) consolidated the Ladies team position and Alison secured the second place for the team with a solid 77:30 (164th) for a comfortable top half of the field finish.
The day was rounded off nicely with some top nosh back at the Whitehill FC ground - the weather being pleasant enough to sit outside, believe it or not....

Moorfoots at Peebles XC

A top day's Winter running in Haylodge Park !

The runners were out in force, the conditions were classic winter XC (cold, muddy, threatening to snow !) and a fantastic turn out of supporters.

On top of that, we had some great individual results from Moorfoot runners, both on the Peebles course and over the full series.

The park was actually ominously quiet around elevel o'clock, and it looked as if the recent weather was perhaps going to take its toll - but as the Junior race start time approached, people started appearing (from the warmth of their cars ?) and by 11:30, the start line was jumping.

Some great Moorfoot Junior performances in the two lap junior race - the 'slalom poles' borrowed from the local football club, adding a professional looking touch to the proceedings and colourful addition to the park; the Costorphine AC 'cow bell' also adding to the atmosphere.

The senior race set off with a few sleaty flakes trying to fall on the proceedings, but never really came to anything. The river side path was muddy, the new climb up to the Saw Mill was testing, the now infamous climb up the Sware Hill field reducing most runners to a shuffle as they breached the 'snow line', before entering the woods and the fast descent through the fields and then the final blast through the woods and along the railway line in even more mud - great stuff !

Moorfoot highlights:

Mike Reid 24:41 (4th)
Tom Hobbs 25:27 (7th)
Mike McGovern 25:57 (11th)
Wull Hynd 26:39 (15th)
Steve Martin 27:00 (20th)
Russell Anderson 27:56 (28th)
Scout Adkin 28:21 (1st Lady, 1st FJ)
Carol Moss 28:42 (2nd Lady, 1st FV45)
Clive Adkin 29:26 (50th)
Julia Connor 29:51 (4th Lady, 1st FV35)
Eddie Balfour 30:31 (59th)
Alex Campbell 30:31 (7th Lady, 2nd FJ)
Alison Caw 34:03 (4th FV40)

The series prize giving at the Gytes was also hosted by the Moorfoots this year - hot soup and food from Kingsmeadows Catering was appreciated by all. A big thank you to all who supported the prize giving.

And finally, a very big thank you to all the Moorfoots and friends and families who supported and helped at todays event - there were a lot of very complimentary comments from the runners of other clubs.....well done everyone !
