Muckletoon Adventure Festival - Trail Half Marathon 2014

Up the hill, round the monument....
Good feedback about this event (Trail Half Marathon) from last year's inaugural race where Moorfoot's Andy Cox had come second, so entered this year to give it a go....

Slightly bigger field, more club runners (?) and definitely better weather than last year by all accounts...and good organisation and marshaling, although a few of the front runners still managed to miss a marker and had to do a bit of back tracking....doh !

My own efforts....paced it quite well on the fast first section along into the town and through the cheering crowds and pipe bands (yes, really...great atmosphere !) and over the monster climb up to the monument (~250m climb in ~2KM; 25% at the bottom !)
First 3KM  - ouch !

Held my position through to about 10 mile mark where I was overtaken by the leading Lady, but managed to find a 'kick' in the last half mile back on the road back to the finish to regain my lost placing and picked up a further place from a HBT runner who looked pretty done in...

9th place (not many top tens on my running record !) in 1:46...quite pleased with that !

Full results here...

Great event...worth a look again next year.
Innerleithen's Craig Rendle picked up 2nd place in the Trail 10K

Great wee YouTube video promoting the Adventure Festival weekend....
