Club autumn weekend away Friday 25th - Sunday 27th October

Some say a day out of the Tweed valley is a day wasted. But if you did fancy wasting a couple of days and nights away this autumn with some of your Moorfoots club mates, read on...

We're planning a club trip to the Cairngorms during the last weekend in October (Friday 25th - Sunday 27th October) and would welcome members new and old who would like to come along. 

The plan is for us to head up to the Aviemore area on Friday night, ideally booking accommodation at Glenmore Lodge which has good accommodation and a very comfortable bar/restaurant all under one roof.

For those who like a hill race, the Meall a'Bhuachaille race takes place on Saturday 26th October at 12 noon. It's 13km with 720m of ascent with finishing times at last year's race ranging from 1hr 9mins to 2hrs 10mins. Registration is on the day, so a few of us will be entering that.  

For non-racers, there are plenty of options in the vicinity for stunning low level trail runs or full-on mountain days. The idea is that on Sunday after breakfast we'd do another (longish) run/walk, possibly taking in the summit of Cairngorm itself, before heading home later in the day.

The plan will be fluid up until the last-minute to take account of prevailing weather conditions and other factors but nobody should be put off by thinking the planned routes are too long/short/hilly/flat/easy/hard for them. There will hopefully be someone who wants to do a similar activity to you, even if that is reading a book by the fire all day in the bar at Glenmore Lodge or going for a leisurely stroll somewhere.  

If you'd like to come along, please can you let Dave Gaffney know asap and by Friday 2nd August at the latest, indicating whether you'd like accommodation (bed & breakfast basis, sharing twin rooms) for:

• the night of Friday 25th only
• the night of Saturday 26th only
• both Friday 25th and Saturday 26th nights

Once I know who's all up for it, I'll be in touch to confirm costs etc and we'll organise car-sharing and other details nearer the time.
