New Moorfoot Sarah McCormark and Scout both ran in the Scottish 4Km XC Championships in Glasgow on Sunday, on the flat but usually soft Bellahouston Park course.
Sarah finished in a very creditable 9th placing (14:32) in what looked like a tight finish with Diane Lauder of Gala (14:30). Scout managed 8th place in the U20 category of the same race in 16:15.
Full results here (page9)....well done to both !

Moorfoots at Berwick XC
Some tired legs after Saturday's Devils Burdens Race, but a good turn out of Moorfoots again at Berwick for round 2 of BXC 2011.
Well done to Mike Reid, notching up another win....strong performances from Russell, Ian Munro and Clive to contribute to the team placings.
And good to see Mike Pearson and Ian Nimmo having their own private battle further down the field....
Results here...
Next BXC is at Norham on Sunday 6-February....

Moorfoots at the Devil's Burdens 2011
Run for your life boys - the Moorfoots are coming !!! |
Moorfoot 'A'
Mike M/Darin, Tom, Mike R/James, Wull (Team time 2:38:29)
Finished in 10th, up against some very strong opposition from the Scottish Hill Running elite. As high as 4th place after Leg 1, but the race is won and lost on the long third leg and that's where the 'big clubs' turned the screw.
I'm sure this team will be up for it again next year - post mortem of where a few further minutes can be shaved already under way....
Moorfoot and Friends
Eve/Alison, Russell, Colin/Graham, Eddie (Team time 3:07:32)
Finished 33rd - neck and neck with 'Moorfoot - Pride o' the Borders' at the half way mark, a five minute advantage was gained on leg3, enough time to stay ahead over the fourth leg...
Well done to all - hoping we will see 'friends' Eve, Alison and Graham again at another race or Moorfoot club event.
Moorfoot - Pride o' the Borders
Julia/David, Scout, Kenny/Sarah, Johnny (Team time 3:10:20)
Finished 38th (and second place in the 'Mixed' category !!!) - a good tussle with "Moorfoot and Friends" on legs 2 and 3, and clawing back the deficite on leg4 before running out of race...
Thank you to David from Gala Harriers for filling the sixth team spot at short notice....

I'm organising the next handicap in January. details of the propsed course are below. I will post more details and send round a map that can be printed out closer to the time.
First one off at 10.00am.
The Route is 8.5km and has 300m of ascent. Starting at the old railway bridge by the caravan park with a run along the Tweed to Walkerburn and finishing in the mountain bike car park.
I was thinking we could go along to the Whistle stop cafe on the High Street afterwards for a cup of something hot. Hope to see you there. More details later.

In summary:
- Series will now be 4 races only (Paxton, Berwick, Norham, Dunbar)
- 3 races to count for individual and team prizes (ie. one discard from the four)

Moorfoots at BXC Paxton
2010/2011 BXC series is up and running...!
It looked like the winter curse was going to hit Paxton too, after 10cm of snow in Peebles overnight on Saturday. But Paxton, only a few miles inland from Berwick, seemed to miss the snow dump....the race went ahead as scheduled, but with snow and ice from earlier in the winter still a key feature of the course conditions.
The two lap 4 mile course was relatively flat, a couple of short sharp banks to negotiate, but the picking your route through the hard packed snow and icy sections was key to maintain momentum - places easy given away for getting it wrong.
Five Moorfoot seniors made it to the start line - Mike Reid again pushing for top spot, but beaten into second (26:33) this time by Costorphine's Keith Hood, less than ten seconds ahead.
Kenny ran a fast first lap before fading a bit but hung on for a creditable 18th place (29:38); Russell picked up another V50 placing (2nd) in 30:04, with Ian Munro not far behind in 30:54.
Clive Adkin brought home the team in 31:30.
Well done to Run Duns for getting the series up and running and hosting the races in tricky course conditionjs.
Full results here...
Nine Moorfoot juniors took part in the 1.5 mile junior race - great performances by all; special mention for Jacob and Sophie, 'fresh' from district honours at the Edinburgh XC races on Saturday, who were well clear of the opposition in the junior male and female races for a Moorfoot 'double first'.

Moorfoots at the Portobello Promathon
Happy New Year !
With the snow and ice gone, a race at last...
A small number of Moorfoots took part in the Portobello Promathon 4 mile road race today - conditions were cold (it was January by the seaside !) and there was a bit of a breeze, making the return leg hard going on this out and back course.
Mike Reid showed that he will be the Moorfoot to beat in 2011, taking 11th place (20:58) in a strong field.
Mike McGovern showed no signs of Christmas over indulgence, recording 22:24 for 19th place.
Kenny opened his race account for the new year with a time of 24:17 and 43rd place.
A total of 237 runners completed the course, with the winning time of 18:56 being the fastest winning time for a good number of years.
