John Buchan Way - Club Run, Sunday 9th February

Our annual Club running of the John Buchan Way - Broughton to Peebles ~13 miles - on Sunday 9th February. Run Leader - Alan Elder
Route (but we do it from Broughton to Peebles)
Route here: https://walkscottishborders.com/route/john-buchan-way/

Meet at Gytes Leisure Centre Peebles at 10.00 for prompt departure
Divy up into cars and head up to Broughton Place for start of run (plan to be running by 10.30)
Run usually takes ~2 hrs (10 min mile pace inc stops) - we will try and run as a group, with regular regrouping at suitable landmarks.
Probably advise bringing a snack, it's a trail shoe footwear choice and full body cover - there will be stops, and particularly for faster runners, you will be running much below race pace, so don't get cold !

All going to plan, back in Peebles ~12.30, with the option of some food and refreshments at the Bridge Inn after.

Please fill in the doodle poll if you are planning to come: https://doodle.com/poll/fcpedtc3um87ui8b

We hope to have the support of a spouse/partner/friends to get us to Broughton - saves trying to return later for picking up cars. If you are able to offer a lift to other runners - please leave a message in the comment section on doodle or via the facebook post.
To get the ball rolling - Alan's wife has space for two other runners.

Anyone who fancies doing a half-Buchan (starting at Stobo and running back over the JBW), let Alan know and we can try to organise....

Feel the Burns Hill Race 2020 report

There was a good Moorfoot turn out for the eighth edition of the annual Feel The Burns hill race in Selkirk, covering a distance of 12.9 miles with 2,500 feet of climb (20.8 km / 760m), with everyone acquiting themselves well and appearing to enjoy themselves in the tough early season race. It attracts a large and very high quality field with 270 runners including Andy Douglas, the reigning World Mountain Running World Cup champion who won the race in a new course record in 1:25.03 (which is a decent time on a flat road half marathon!), Jill Stephen the reigning Scottish Hill Runners champion for the last two years, Colin Donnelly the reigning M60 world champion, Angela Mudge who was World Champion in 2000.

Moorfoot results:

Many thanks to Sheila Cochrane, who year after year, makes this race grow in popularity, coordinates a wonderful group of marshals and donates all profits to Tweed Mountain Rescue, as well as laying on the best post race haggis pies ever experienced!

Pete Hall was marshalling at the Feel the Burns as part of the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue team and snapped a few photos of those in vests https://www.facebook.com/groups/moorfootrunners/permalink/2467854926809795/

Club socials over the Festive break

Great turnout for the 'Boxing Day Run to the Mast' with 15 doing the run

The Junior handicap was a success. Gregor's report:
11 at 11. That was eleven runners at 11 o'clock for the handicap fun run and we had two firsts. A first-time adult winner overall with Frank Clare, running off a handicap of 3.00 minutes, going eyeballs out in a sea of lactic over the final 100m to determinedly hold off his daughter Charlotte who was backmarker off a handicap of 4.30. Frank's winning time was 16.19 with CC one second behind in 16.20 and with the fastest scratch time of 11.50 for the 2-mile course. She'll be kicking herself for being one second outside Euan James Hood's fastest scratch time from 2016! So a Clare 1-2 but mum Sarah Clare was posted missing 🙁 despite the promise of a good handicap.
Frank took home the trad bottle of hot spicy sauce for first adult and in a new innovation, which was the second first, Mark Pyman got the booby prize - the Jam Tarts award for being bottom of the pile! By a long way!! 🤣 💚💚
Ta to Ruth McKean for sweeping.
Place Name H'cap Time Scratch Time Scratch Place
1 Frank Clare 3.00 - 16.19 - 13.19 - 4
2 Charlotte Clare 4.30 - 16.20 - 11.50 - 1
3 Kieran Fulton 4.00 - 16.32 - 12.32 - 2
4 Shaun Pyman 3.30 - 16.44 - 13.14 - 3
5 Ava Mooney 2.10 - 16.53 - 14.43 - 5
6 Carol Edwards 0.00 - 17.25 - 17.25 - 9
7 Kate McKean 1.30 - 17.34 - 16.04 - 7
8 Olivia McKean 1.30 - 18.39 - 17.09 - 8
9 Bobby Mooney 4.00 - 18.46 - 14.46 - 6
10 Ben McKean 0.50 - 19.19 - 18.29 - 10
11 Mark Pyman 1.30 - 20.13 - 18.43 - 11

Also 5 made it to and back to the Three Brethren on Hogmanay

Run off the Christmas Pudding Race 2020

Again there was a good Moorfoot turnout in the 2020 edition of the Melrose Run off the Christmas Pudding Race.
The 13.1km/8 mile mixed terrain route follows an anti clockwise loop of the Eildon Hills on trail and road and includes almost 1,000 feet of climb and some very muddy tracks.
Great to see a big turnout with 7 Moorfoots out enjoying the challenge, including really good runs to start the year all round and included a 2nd place by Gillian Carr and a 3rd place by Colin Williams, but really an event where the emphasis was on the challenge. Proceeds going to local scouts and junior football club, and first time I’ve recieved a goodie bag including a toilet roll! Great spread in the club house later.
Many photos are available as photographers were on the course https://photos.app.goo.gl/Sfi58Hu5LnkV4hQM6

Greenmantle Dash Hill Race 2020 report

Here's Dean Carr's report from the 2nd January at the Greenmantle Dash hill race in Broughton:

Gillian and Lucy Oldham and myself made the short hop over to Broughton to take part in the Dash 2020.  Starting outside the brewery (after stringent kit checks) we ran to the primary school, jumped the wall sprinted across the playground, waddle over the burn, splooshed through the bog before a nice steep bracing walk up the steep hill then on rounding the shepherds crook and rapido decent back to the village hall.
Hot soup and rolls were a welcome post race treat as was a free beer each.  Gillian also come first female V40 so Lucy and I were gifted with some more beer !!!!!
Happy new year everyone all the best running for 2020
Results seem to have added 2 mins to our times !!!!
