Moorfoots at Dunbar XC

Mike Reid 2010/11 Border XC Series Champion
Dunbar hosted the final race of the 2010/11 Border XC series, on a changed course from recent years based at White Sands, east of the town.

The beach start was followed by an undulating course downwind past Barns Ness lighthouse, before more beach and then a hard slog back into the wind through the seaside links to the finish. A slightly shorter course than some previous legs, but making the pace hot from the off...

Mike Reid secured his series win with a solid 4th place (24:11) - some forty seconds down on his series rival Keith Hood who revelled on the fast flat course, but only managing a 2nd place behind the U20 Lasswade runner Ross Mathieson who was in a different league today...

Russell, returning after a few weeks rest following injury, came home in 32nd (28:08), securing 2nd place in the series in the V50/54 category - another trophy for the cabinet.

Kenny set of hard before struggling a bit towards the end, just missing out on a top20 placing in 26:52.

Mike Pearson and Ian Nimmo had another 'battle royale' further back down the pack, Mike coming out on top this time by over a minute in 45:53.

Final team placings to follow, but congratulations to Gala for this years team win.

Well done to the Dunbar club for a well organised race and some slick results handling to be able to do the full prize giving an hour or so after the last runner crossed the line.

Full results here...

Some great on the day and series results for the Moorfoot juniors too...lots of horse brasses and glass trophies to be polished and dusted....

So another XC season over - although this one looked as if it would never actually get started back at the end of November due to the snow, but we got there - road and hill races beconning in March and beyond....

Moorfoot Runners AGM - Friday 4th March

All senior members should now have received an email confirming the details of the Moorfoot Runners 2011 AGM

The 2011 Moorfoot Runners' AGM is to be held on Friday 4th March at 8pm in The Courthouse, Peebles.

It is proposed that the AGM takes no longer than an hour, leaving plenty for general discussion and socialising afterwards.

We are always pleased to welcome new committee members with fresh ideas and enthusiasm. If you would like to join the committee, please complete and return the nomination form. The current committee will meet in advance, and we will propose membership fees and committee members for approval at the meeting.

Under 'any other business' on the following agenda, anything can be raised, but if you have a specific matter you wish to raise, it would help if you please submit it in writing to me, Club Secretary, by Friday 18th February.

I will circulate any proposals in advance, which will give us all a chance to think about it before the meeting.

Agenda
i. President's report.
ii. Treasurer's report, and vote to approve the Accounts.
iii. Junior section report.
iv. Vote to approve membership subscriptions.
v. Election of committee.
vi. Any other business, including club plans for 2011.

To help plan numbers, I would appreciate it if you could let me know whether you are able to attend or not.

Regards,
Kirsty

National XC at Falkirk

Sarah McCormack had a tremendous run in Moorfoot colours at the Nationals at Callendar Park, Falkirk, finishing 4th in the senior Women’s race behind Freya Murray.

In the top 10 throughout, Sarah dug in from half-way on the 8km course to break away from her group, which included Diane Lauder from Gala. Freya Murray was away and gone and the gap to the medal positions was also too big, but Sarah was making good ground on 4th and 5th up the final hill with 1km to go. Down the “back straight” at the 400m mark she was into 5th and working hard to close the 5m gap to 4th. Round the last sharp turn for the final downhill stretch of 180m Sarah produced an impressive kick to sprint clear and cross the line in 4th. Enough to elicit enquiries from the National Endurance Coach regarding her Scottish eligibility which alas is non-existent, being a cosmopolitan mix of Irish father, English mother and Bruce Springsteen (Born in the USA!).

Some good runs from the juniors too with the U13 Boys team finishing in 7th, only one place behind Edinburgh AC.

The road racing season becons too, with the Lasswade 10 miler schedule for the first weekend of March (Sun 6-Mar) - this is a pre-entry only race so get your entries sorted out now.

Moorfoots at Forfar Multi Terrain Half Marathon

Well done to James and Rachael at the recent Forfar Multi-Terrain Half Marathon - James picking up third spot and Rachael fifth in the Ladies.

No reports of the famous Forfar bridies, which were undoubtedly consumed post race, but a cracking picture here of James running through a rather large puddle - check out the ice at the edges....

Moorfoots at Norham BXC

Paxton  was the icy one, Berwick the sandy one - Norham was definitely the muddy one.....

The heavy rain and stormy weather of the latter part of the week had prepared the course nicely for some good old fashioned XC mud plugging. The organisers pre-race stories of 'chest deep water in the burn' on Saturday were laughed off, but when 'nine crossings of the burn' on the course were mentioned on the start line, it was too late to go back and get the water wings.

Mike Reid  (26:11) made it two in a row with a narrow win over Costorphine's Keith Hood to lead the mens series after three races - so all to play for at the new Dunbar course at the end of the month, with both runners still capable of taking the series.

Elsewhere on the course, Russell (29:57) had a good tussle with Carnethy's Andy Spencely in the V50 category , having to settle for 2nd in this category.
Close behind, Kenny (30:04) started strongly, but eight (?) dookings in the burn (it was only 'waist deep' and at least one crossing was on a bridge) took it toll in the middle section of the race, before a good race down the closing stretch to claw back the odd place.

Scout  (31:48) was back in BXC action, working her way back to form and running well enough for second female. Dad Clive (32:00) ran strongly too for another Moorfoot team counter.

Mike Pearson (57:16) followed up his Berwick appearance - going slightly off course later on when the runner in front rejoined the junior course (some people just can't get enough mud action !)

Special mention for Moorfoot mum Lucy Husband running in her first BXC, completing the course in 43:51 and third place in her category. Something of a baptism of fire (or mud even), but at least Dunbar will seem easy in comparison....

Well done to Les Turnbull and the Norham RC team for another great BXC race - my favourite of this year's series so far.

Full Norham BXC results  here...

Final race  of the series is Dunbar on 27-Feb - new course - more details here..
