Two Breweries Race

All smiles at the start line - not such a pretty sight at the other end

Perfect running weather for this years Two Breweries Race with a refreshing breeze on the tops keeping temperatures down.

Moorfoots fielded 5 runners:-

Andy Cox 3:25 (p.b. - special tape on the knees must work)
James Britton 3:27  (p.w - blames biking all summer)
Eddie Balfour 3:45  (better than last year !)
Bruce McGorum 3:50 (impressive time for a first outing)
Alan Elder  5:17  (managed to beat all the cut- offs this year so a great achievement)

Lesley Kirkwood (Peebles Cycling Club)  4:47 - coming out of retirement ??

Cramps seemed to plague many runners as they came off the final descent from Trehenna hill, James was at one point lying flat out on the road about a mile from the finish and my decent from the summit involved hopping from one leg to the other as alternate calves cramped up. Must do some homework on better hydration!

A final word for Colin who couldn't make the race as Fi was not well but was good enough to come to the start line and cheer us off.

full results

post race comment from Alan Elder: Fantastic (if not brutal) outing but walking will be a challenge for the next few days. Will have to review my training plan for next year - those eight, two minute hill reps with Colin last Tuesday night probably didn't prepare me for Glensax or Trahenna!

World Team Bronze for Jacob, Sarah 15th

Sorry if that live stream link I provided for the World Mountain Running Champs just gave you an Italian Sunday mass! B*m steer through the WMRA. However I can report that Jacob finished 23rd, 3rd counter of the GB four and along with 11th and 13th places this secured a fantastic team bronze for the GB Junior Men.
Sarah McCormack looks to have had an excellent run for Ireland too, coming home in a dead-heat for 15th just 2secs behind GB's 2nd counter. Looks like an exceptionally tough course judging by twitter photos on corsainmontagna. More to follow.

Perthshire Marathon & Cycle Marathon Sat 6th Sept

A great day on Saturday at the 3rd Perthshire Marathon - a beautiful circuit from Aberfeldy taking in Kenmore and the surrounding countryside. A small field of around 150 marathon runners, I came home in 3:44, but keeping plenty in reserve since I had also entered the bike event which started 20 minutes later! The same course on the bike seemed much easier somehow having just run it, and it helped that I met Peebles Cycling Club member Karen Sinclair and rode as a Peebles team. 26 miles is not exactly a long way on the bike, but it certainly feels longer after you've just run it too........

A great and very well organised event, and 2 medals and goodie bags for a change too!

45 young Moorfoots and a couple of coaches had some welcome support on Tue night in the form of European Bronze medallist (1500m) Chris O'Hare. Offering advice on techniques and encouraging all runners it was a fitting conclusion to the summer training programme.

Many thanks to Chris for giving up his valuable time. The kids went away star struck

Thanks also to Gregor for arranging the surprise !!!!
