The Adkin siblings Scout and Jacob were both on good form at the FRA Inter-Counties Fell Running Championship races in Witton Park, Blackburn on Sunday.
Representing Scotland East, 20 year-old Scout was 11th overall and second Scot home in 48.17 in a stacked senior women's race over a 9.1k course (369m climb), only 6 seconds behind 8th placed Charlotte Morgan (Carnethy). Along with Megan Crawford and Gala Harrier Louise Mercer, the East team picked up excellent team silver medals behind the hot favourites and GB-packed team fromYorkshire.
Jacob went in the shorter U18 Junior Men's race over 5.4km (220m) and was home in 23.13 for an excellent 3rd place on the podium behind GB junior internationalist Max Wharton (22.49) and only 3 seconds adrift of silver.

Gypsy Glen Hill Race Report 2014
59 runners (37 men & 22 woman) took part in this years Gypsy Glen race on Wednesday night. It was won by Don Naylor of Hunters Bog Trotters with the Welsh International steeple chaser from the Manchester Commonwealth Games showing his class but winning the 5 mile, 1000 feet ascent course by over a minute in a time of 32.21 with Darrel Hastie of Kelso second. The first Moorfoot home was Andrew Cox in 5th (34.51) with other Moorfoots picking up prizes being Mike McGovern in 7th and winning the first M Vet 40 prize, and Carol Moss second woman, behind the vastly experienced and decorated Peebles athlete Susan Ridley (Edinburgh AC).
Thanks to the Peebles Community Council for providing marshals, Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue for providing safety cover, the local Freewheelin' Brewery for supplying prizes and Scout Adkin for making the presentations.

Moorfoot at Ben lomond.
This was the second year in a row, that myself and liane traveled to Rowardenan, for the famous Ben lomond hill race, with a category AM and distance of 12k to the cairn and back, makes for adrenaline fuelled buzz of excitement, if your into ankle breaking rough as hell terrain for fun.
As usual, liane kicks back and reads a book, while she waits for me to collapse over the line.
Back on the usual position for the start line, opposite the pub,with last years race being altered slightly with the council requesting a licence to start on the road, it's only been going for the past 40 years on the road side!!! Banter was flying getting ready for the race, with the teviotdale boys giving out plenty, Julia and the man and lots of usual faces turned up. The forecast was meant to be awful but actually turned out about 15 decrees, was sweating and hadn't even starting running yet. A quick start along the road and up through the woods, then the real work starts, constant climbing, and when you think your near the top, there's more. I usually judge how good I'm climbing if I can see old smithy (Alan smith of dee side). With Stuc a chroin and Dumyat still in the legs, was surprised how well the legs were working, and no Alan in sight!!! Ive got him this time, kept playing in my head. Lungs were absolutely on fire when I reached the cairn, back along the ridge and down the fast grassy decent before hitting the rocky path again, legs turned to jelly, the feeling you get when coming down Ben Nevis at speed. The old smithy caught me about half way down, and I couldn't keep up with the legendary descender, shouting out your a hard man to beat, I got the reply, there's still a long way to go!!! The path gets rougher and the ground wetter and he just opened up the gap. Had absolutely nothing left when I hit the road at the bottom and run back to the finish ( not the usual sprint finish this time)
A lot slower than last years 1:16 time, although felt as if I had went quicker, the different start maybe,or holding back a bit from a serious fall with the marathon coming up, maybe the massive blister on the heel with a small stone eating away at it.??? Who knows, I will be back again next year to find out. After the race I joined a few guys in the loch for more reminiscing, to cool down the burning legs. Great race with great company. Results below, Hector Haines won it easy with a 4 min margin.

Loch Leven Half - a ps
Just to add to Colin's post below, a very enjoyable day at the Loch Leven half, very well organised and the weather stayed benign! The three of us mentioned below were also joined by Martin Holt and Robert Wilson from Peebles, the latter making his half marathon debut.

Loch Leven Half Marathon
Moorfoots took part in the Loch Leven half today. There were over 500 in the race. Barry Hughes finished in 1.38.00, 124th; Fiona Williams 1.38.59, 135th and 19th woman, Laurence Carvalho in 1.42.03, 167th.
Gold and Silver for Jacob and Mairi at Scottish Junior Hill Champs
News from Ben Lomond which again hosted the Scottish Junior Hill Race Champs today is that Jacob Adkin went one better than last year's silver to take gold in the U20 Men's race and Mairi Wallace repeated her silver medal winning performance in the U15 Girls' race.

Andy Cox in action at Dumyat
Great midweek race, part of the bog and burn series , lots of racing snake uni youngsters on the start line,stayed dry during the race but hell o boggy and burn under foot, fast start to get through the little gap in the wall before a cue forms, steep climbing through woods then out onto the open hill, with a mostly runnable rocky slog to the top, round the cairn and very fast decent, seems I'm quicker going up than coming down, past by about 5 runners , but did claw back 2 only to be out sprinted by one of them again on the home stretch, would have beaten Sarah McCormacks 2012 time by one second ha!!!
