Broughton Heights Sunday club run - 5 June 2022

Here's Kerry Laws report from the club run on Sunday 5 June, looks like a cracking day and not many takers so get yourself along next time if you can!:

It was a lovely sunny morning when Mike and I met up in Broughton for a Sunday club run. Being a holiday weekend we were the only ones who turned up! But we’d planned a good route, and were both looking forward to it, so decided to go anyway.

A short stretch of road out of Broughton took us to the start of the first hill. We were soon to discover we’d planned a route with lots of hills and no flat bits! Following the John Buchanan Way we headed up into the hills and very quickly lost sight of Broughton. At the top of the first climb the JBW headed off towards Stobo but we continued up towards the Broughton Heights tops.

A nice runnable grassy track followed the tops, up and down, and along to the summit at Pyked Stane Hill. The views were brilliant – as you can see from Mike’s photos. We could see Tinto Hill and Culter Fell, and away in the other direction towards the Peebles hills. It was one of those views that makes you so grateful that we live where we do.

Retracing our steps we headed towards Hammer Head (more climbing!) and soon found ourselves heading along the tops to Trahenna and Cat Cleuch Head on a great track with more of those wonderful views.

An easy run back down to the valley, dodging a flock of sheep, through the trees, and we were back in Broughton. And the great thing about finishing in the village is the café! Mike and I can both recommend the date and earl grey loaf!
