8 Moorfoots were in action at the Balerno Red Moss Kips Hill Race (6.4 miles, 10.3km / 1300 feet. 400m ascent), which included the East District Hill running champs, and as one of the first hill races in Scotland it had a very able and big entry. It had 5 waves due to the size of the field, and with all the COVID restrictions a big thank you to Jamie Thin and the HBT crew for making it happen.
Here's Jamie Thin's summary:
Great to see hill runners doing what we love - out racing in the hills again!
The weather was kind and with a record turnout of 151 runners, both the Mens and Womens course records were broken
Thanks to all the race volunteers at start and finish and marshalls on the hills - and Catriona Bruce of Blastrunning for the very efficient chip timing (results here)
Thanks also to the local landowners, farmers and Pentland Hills Regional Park for allowing the race to go ahead
For the Men, Andrew Douglas (InverClyde - West District) set a new mens record of 38:48 , taking 2 mins off the previous record. Eoin Lennon (Carnethy HRC) was 2nd ( and East District winner) equalling Euan Brown's previous record of 40:46 set in 2019
For the Women, Megan Crawford (Fife AC) set a new women's record of 47:39 to win the East District Champs. Kirsty Dickson (Carnethy HRC) was 2nd and also beat the previous record from 2016
Moorfoor results below and some very close racing Daniel and Simon had a real ding dong in Wave 1 changing positions a few times, and Colin would have too if he'd not been in different Wave looking at the Strava segments which had Simon leading at the top of the Kips! Mike showed some good from, and managed to not get lost but made up for that by missing his start wave by 4 minutes! Dean and Brian continued their close races that they've being enjoying in the handicap series, Gillian had a great run and collected a 3rd place in the W45 East District, along with Colin's 2nd in M45. Alan brought it home in his customary splattering of blood having taken a tumble on the descent but seemed none the worse once he got cleaned up!
All in all a good evening's run and blether after
