Moorfoot Club Championships 2022

 Hi Everyone,

This year we are introducing our first ever Moorfoot club championship! A bit of competitive fun and a chance to discover some new races - all fairly local.  Races cover a mixture of disciplines (road, trail, hill, 10k, half marathon, ultra) so hopefully you can try something new.

If you follow the link to the spreadsheet below you will find a list of races included in the championship.  The idea is to try and do as many as you can.  Each race has an associated number of points allocated to it.  There is also a number of bonus points that can be won to help boost your score.  The championship starts from 1st April till the final race at Tinto on 5th November.

There will be some prizes at the end of the championship for 1st, 2nd, 3rd to give you all some incentive.  (still sorting out what they will be but they will be good !!!).

We will keep everyone updated when race entries open, but keep an eye out yourselves.

We'll keep an eye on results of the races and provide regular  updates on how the championship is progressing.  Please email me your result just incase.

We appreciate that there will be clashes with other races  you might be thinking of, but there should be enough races  to give you a good chance.

Hopefully this will be good fun for everyone.

All the best and good racing

Chapelgill Hill Race 2022

Chapellgill is one of the longest running hill races in Scotland and was started back in the late 70's. It claims to be the steepest hill race in Britain. The course is a real thigh burner straight up and down, 2.4km Climb 430m.

Two Moorfoots took part. Andy Cox was defending champion and won again with a PB time of 22:08. Danny Lavin also recorded a top three finish in 23:08, having made it to the summit in 2nd place. Full results https://protay.co.uk/chapelgill/results.php

I went along to watch and used the opportunity to do the Culter Fell horseshoe as a long run and timed it to be at the top for the race and got some amazing pics on a stunning day.

Carlisle Half Marathon and 10K

On March 15 2020, the day before lockdown Gillian and I did the Carlisle Half Marathon.  Two years letter we were back for our our first road race since then.  A much bigger field than last year toed the line at Brunton Park (home of Carlisle United) before a round of applause in support of Ukraine (and a large flag).

Gillian was still struggling with the effects of COVID so opted to move to the 10K.

The race starts with a tour of Carlisle city centre, including a run through the Sands shopping center (which I really like) before heading out into the Cumbrian countryside.  The race heads out toward Brampton before reentering the city via Rickerby park and finishes back in the football Stadium.

I really enjoyed running a "city" race again albeit 1 min slower than 2 years ago, and Gillian had a good 10k coming 3rd female.

Medals at Brunton Park

Post race Nosh at Anatolia's Turkish resturant, well worth a visit !!!!

Borders XC League Final Race at Gala.

A large contingent of Moorfooter-ers heading made the short trip through to Galashiels for the final race of the series.  Perfect spring conditions and with the sun melting the icy course it was looking like a muddy one.  The race starts with a few short laps of the woods in the Gala Policies, before heading out onto the fields to do the usual Borders XC hills slog and then a rapid decent back into Polcies.  We were all delighted with the water feature and following mud bath.  A final blast through the policies and a fast downhill finish to the line.

The ladies team were struck by COVID (Gillian) and Holidays (Rosie), but Amy stepped up on the day, her parents provided childcare so Milan and Jen could run so be good to thanks to them

Annabel is the fourth (littler) woman

Final Results:

No final team results yet but I think Moorfoots finished both 3rd in the Male and Female categories.  Other top 3 results were Jen Misak 3rd FV40 and Carole Moss 2nd FV50 and a great series from Mike Goddard 1st MV70.
