Saturday saw the culmination of Innerleithen St Ronan's Games Week with the hosting of the oldest organised athletics meeting in Scotland, Instituted in 1827.
Starting with the Lee Pen Hill Race which includes 1,200 brutal feet of climb and then foot burning descent within the ‘modest’ 3 mile course which had 24 competitors this year. The race was won by James Dunn of Corstorphine AAC in the scorching quick time of 25:50 in scorching hot conditions! The female winner was clubmate Sophie Collins, originally from Peebles and a Moorfoot as a junior, and they each enjoyed a £80 top prize which seemed particular apt when it was announced at the prize giving that they had got engaged only earlier this week!
For the men 2nd was Felix Wilson of Carnethy, with 1st Veteran Brian Marshall in 3rd and 1st Local Andy Cox of the home club Moorfoot Runners in 4th. Magda Janus was second woman home and 1st Local, with Vickie Morrison of the Moorfoots claiming the veteran prize in 3rd.

Many thanks to Walkerburn resident Bob Johnson, for sponsoring of the Hill Race by his company Realistic Engineering Analysis. There is a substantial prize fund which for the first time had equal top prizes for men and woman.
In the games field there was some success for the Moorfoots in the handicapped track races, with a very strong showing by Johnny Birks in the junior mile with an impressive and convincing win.
Robert Horton was 3rd in junior 200m, and Charlotte Clare was third in both the Open 800m and mile, followed home by Colin Williams in 4th (the first time he’s not come last!)
